Alice Terese Jarstad

Alice Terese Jarstad, 74 of Wabasha, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Gundersen - St. Elizabeth Hospital, Wabasha.
Alice was born June 8, 1951, in St. Paul, MN to Doris (Boehm) and Merton Houle. She graduated from Forest Lake High School and College of St. Teresa in Winona with a degree in nursing. It was there she met her future husband Mark. Alice and Mark married on August 18, 1973 in Forest Lake. Alice started her nursing career at St. John’s Hospital in St. Paul while Mark attended law school.
Mark and Alice moved to Wabasha in 1977. They were proud parents of two children, Sarah and Brian. Alice worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital until retirement. There she made many cherished friends. She was also a longtime volunteer on the Wabasha Ambulance.
Alice made friends easily and knew nearly everyone in Wabasha – many of whom lived along her daily walking route. She was in constant motion with an endless array of hobbies including walking, biking, yoga, pottery, shopping, reading, coffee with friends, and the regular martini night. She took many trips across the globe and made many memories along the way.
Despite numerous health struggles over recent years, her family rested easy knowing she had a truly exceptional support network to help her and Mark at a moment’s notice. She was proud to be a mom and happy beyond measure to have four grandchildren to keep her moving even more. Alice brightened every room, cared for every person, laughed every chance she could, and lived life to the fullest.
She is survived by her husband Mark; children: Sarah (Eric) Beuning and Brian (Valerie) Jarstad; four grandchildren: Annika, Isaac, Alex and Ellie; two sisters: Mary (Ray) Turcotte and Jill (Mark) Schmidt; sister-in-law Marianne (Gene) Herold, and seven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew Mike Herold.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha with parish prayers at 6:45 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2025, at St. Felix Catholic Church, Wabasha. A visitation will precede mass and will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church. Interment will be at St. Felix Cemetery, Wabasha immediately following mass.
