Dolores H. Kahl

Dolores H. Kahl of Mount Horeb, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. She was born on November 3, 1930, in Westboro, Wis., the daughter of George and Maria (Shebestak) Zimmerman. Dolores grew up on the Zimmerman homestead that borders the Chequamegon National Forest and graduated from Westboro High School. She met Donald Landmark while working at the University in Madison and they were married in 1951.
Dolores’ keen mind and meticulous problem solving made her a valuable employee at Tracor Northern where she retired as a supervisor after 25 years of service, in 1990. Dolores wed Milton “Cootie” Kahl in 1979 and they spent many happy years traveling and hosting fun adventures with their grandchildren.
In retirement, Dolores spent many hours sewing handmade quilts and other beautiful keepsakes for her family. She was also a talented baker providing pies, stryl and delicious death by chocolate desserts. With her endless energy and love of people, she also worked part-time for many years at Isaac’s in the Mount Horeb Antique Mall.
Dolores is survived by her daughter, Judy Thompson; and her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Julie Landmark; brother, Donald Zimmerman of Westboro; sister, Ruth Baker of Hawkins; sister-in-law, Beverly Jewell; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Landmark and Milton Kahl; son-in-law, Dennis Thompson; brother, Gene; sister-in-law, Helen Zimmerman; brother-in-law, Ray Baker; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 315 E. Main St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, with Pastor Karen Hofstad presiding. After the service, burial will take place at Union Cemetery in Mount Horeb, followed by a luncheon at the church. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Dane County Humane Society.
