Norma Jean Caturia
Norma Jean Caturia, 87 of Plum City, passed away peacefully and went to her heavenly home on April 8, 2026, at Plum City Care Center, Plum City WI, surrounded by her family.
Norma Jean was born December 25, 1938, to Henning and Myrtle (Dahlin) Alsterlund in the Plum City Hospital. She has been a lifelong resident of Plum City. She graduated from Plum City High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) at the University of Northwestern College and completed the nursing program to become a Registered Nurse at Mounds Midway in St Paul. She married Wayne Caturia on April 6, 1962, at the Plum City Free Church. After marriage they lived on the current family farm and raised their four children Brian, Roger, Don, and Barb. She met the love of her life and future husband when he broke her 60-cent baseball bat at school which he finally replaced it on her 70th birthday.
She worked as an RN caring for others most of her life working at the Plum City Hospital, Durand Nursing home until she worked at the Plum City Care Center for the remaining years of her career, as well as working alongside Wayne and her family on the farm. After retiring from the Care Center, she took care of the farm bookwork until her health would no longer allow her to. She also cared for some of her aging aunts at our home. She moved to the Plum City Care Center in February 2019 where she felt comfortable thinking she was still working there and having her husband, Wayne, visit her almost every day to be by her side. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and sister-in-law.
She grew up as a member of the Plum City Free Church and became a member of the Sabylund Lutheran Church in Stockholm after marriage. She was a devoted and faithful Christian and truly loved the Lord. She did her daily prayers and Bible devotions faithfully. She had a love for music and loved to listen to and sing hymns as well as play piano. She sang alto in the University of Northwestern College choir. She taught and was the Sunday School superintendent, she was involved in the church women’s devotional circle group and participated in the church choir for several years. She was a wonderful cook and made large portions for the family and many hired help for the farm. She most of all enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
The family is so grateful and would like to thank the caring staff of the Plum City Care Center for the years of care that they have given back to Norma Jean. Thank you also for all the care and looking after Wayne as well.
