Leon Hayden

Leon Hayden
January 17, 1949 – April 8, 2026
Age 77
Leon Hayden, of Eleva, WI, and lifelong resident of Urne, WI, passed away peacefully at home on April 8, 2026, surrounded by family.
Born in Durand, WI, on January 17, 1949, Leon was the beloved son of the late Fern (Weisenbeck) Hayden and Edward Hayden, and was preceded in death by his sister, Lois (Hayden) Havenor.
Leon is survived by his devoted wife of 50 beautiful years, Debra (Amidon) Hayden, whom he married on February 7, 1976. Together, they built a life of love, faith, and family. Leon was a proud father to Andrew Hayden, Joseph Hayden (wife Bethany), and Theresa Little (husband Andrew). He was the cherished grandfather of Jakkub Cronin, Alex Virijevich, Dakota Little, Hannah Hayden, Christian Little, Vincent Hayden, Leo Hayden, and Camden Little.
He is also survived by his siblings, Lyle Hayden (wife Kay) and Lana (Hayden) Schwellenbach (husband Barry), as well as nieces and nephews Jeff Hayden, Scott Hayden, Kerry Hayden, Kelly Winkler, Casey Havenor, Houston Havenor, Nick Schwellenbach, Samuel Schwellenbach, and his special niece, Alissa Veilbig.
A lifelong member of St. Mary’s Assumption Parish, Leon’s faith was the foundation of his life. He was a farmer through and through, with a deep love for the land, hunting, and wildlife. Leon found joy in sports, traveling out west, fishing with family and friends, hosting hunting gatherings on the farm, and sharing stories, always ready with a good tale or a gentle tease for those he loved. His helpful hands were there for anyone in need, and he was a devoted chauffeur for neighborhood kids and grandchildren alike.
Leon’s unforgettable smile and laugh brightened every room. He enjoyed Western shows and movies, and his legacy includes service as a Maxville Township board member. Above all, Leon’s life was marked by kindness, generosity, and a steadfast commitment to his family, friends, and community.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Rucker, M.D., the St. Croix Hospice staff (especially Nurse Rachel and CNA Reagan), for their compassionate care.
A memorial visitation for Leon will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 4 to 7 PM at Rhiel Funeral Home, Durand, WI. Visitation continues Wednesday, April 15, 2026 after 11 AM at St. Mary’s Assumption Parish, Durand, WI. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon with Father Emmanuel Asamoah-Bekoe officiating. Leon will be interred in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Assumption Parish in honor of Leon, or to a charity of your choice.
