Falcons battle Falcons in matchup with state-ranked Fillmore Central

WABASHA—The Wabasha-Kellogg Falcon volleyball team faced a tough challenge against state-ranked Fillmore Central Falcons on Sept. 29, falling 0-3 but keeping the match competitive throughout.
Despite lasting a mere three sets, the Falcon-on-Falcon matchup was not a swift defeat. Wabasha-Kellogg dropped the first set at a close 20-25 before Fillmore Central took the second 13-25. W-K pushed back in the third set, coming within two points before ultimately falling 23-25.
Addisyn Quade led the W-K Falcons with three kills and 11 set assists, while Piper Wobbe recorded two kills and six blocks, an extreme team-high for the match. Eve Pavelka and Alaina McCann each added three kills.
At the service line, Hannah Arens-Silker was perfect, going 8-for-8 with two aces. Aleaya Becker also had a strong night serving, going 8-for-9, while Quade and Hailey Arens added an ace.
Defensively, Kylee Metcalf recorded 15 digs, followed by with Quade with seven and Lucy Traun with five.
Although W-K was unable to take a set, Wabasha-Kellogg pushed Fillmore Central in two close sets, including the 23-25 finish in the third. In light of the three-set loss, Head Coach Alliyah Mayhew expressed great pride in her team as they held their own against a state-ranked team.
