Darlene Ruth Van Schaick

Darlene Ruth Van Schaick, 83, of Plainview, passed away on Tuesday evening, September 7, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Saint Marys Campus. She was born March 17, 1938, in Rochester to Edwin and Olga (Hameister) Keckhafer. She grew up attending school in Rochester. On January 31, 1962, she married Fabian (Buck) Van Schaick in Rochester.
Darlene worked as an LPN at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester for many years. The Van Schaick’s lived in Rochester, rural Rochester, Goodhue, and then moved to Plainview. Darlene enjoyed spending her free time knitting, crocheting, sewing, and embroidering. She always loved reading books, watching TV and movies, and liked to watch Hummingbirds and horses. She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Millville.
Darlene is survived by her two children, Michelle (Merritt) Stark, Jr. of Minnesota City, and Michael Van Schaick of Plainview; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; five sisters, Genevieve Streiff of Rochester, Janice Hutchins of Maryland, Joanne Russell of Preston, Donna Miller of Albert Lea, and Patricia (Jim) Barker of Sauk Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fabian, grandson, Cody, and sisters, Louise Voit and Mary Keckhafer, and a brother, Kenneth Keckhafer.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Thursday, September 16, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 17, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview.
