Leona Theresa Hentz
Leona Theresa Hentz, 92, of Rochester, Minnesota and formerly of Hammond, Minnesota passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Madonna Meadows in Rochester. She was born July 2, 1932, in Hankinson, North Dakota to John and Veronica (Novak) Birnbaum. Leona attended St. Francis Academy in Hankinson. On September 12, 1950, she married James Hentz in Hankinson, North Dakota he died in 1972. Leona and Robert Temple were married in 1995 in Wisconsin, and he died May 25, 2013.
Throughout Leona’s lifetime she lived in Hankinson, North Dakota, Spring Valley, Zumbro Falls, and Hammond, Minnesota, and in 2021 she moved to Rochester. Leona worked for several years in home health care and at nursing homes, later she worked as a realtor for a few years before she retired.
Leona enjoyed spending her free time quilting, making ceramics, spending time in her gardens, and traveling. Some of her favorite trips were to India, Luxemburg, France, and Germany. She was a former member of St. Clement’s Catholic Church in Hammond and after it closed was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in West Albany.
Leona is survived by her children, Brian (Katie) Hentz of Pembine, Wisconsin, Blaine (Heather) Hentz of Mazeppa, Minnesota, Brandon (Nancy) Hentz, Hankinson, North Dakota, Blase Hentz of San Francisco, California, Barry (Holly) Hentz of Zumbrota, Minnesota, and Brent (Ramses) Hentz of Los Angeles, California; twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren; a sister Jan Klebe, Petaluma, California; and sisters-in-law, Pam Birnbaum of Minnesota and Marilyn Birnbaum of Hankinson, North Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, James and Robert, three sisters and four brothers.
A Celebration of Life for Leona will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, with a service at 4:00 p.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel. The burial for Leona will be on Tuesday, August 12, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Hammond.
