Area baseball teams getting the wins in the past week

Tri-County Area Prep Baseball Review and Preview

The wins are starting to come in for Tri-County Area prep baseball teams this past week (April 21-28).

Fall Creek finds itself in a three-way tie atop the Western Cloverbelt Conference along with Cadott and Elk Mound. This is so because the Crickets have been on a winning streak as of late and winning streak of big wins and short games. FC swept both contests last week with Eau Claire Regis, winning 12-0 in six innings in Eau Claire on Tuesday, April 21 and then shutting out the Ramblers again on Thursday, April 23 at home 10-0 in five innings as winning pitcher Heath Rosemeyer threw a complete game no hitter for the Crickets, their second this season and just the 14th in school history. That win was followed up the very next day at home with an 11-1 win in five innings over Arcadia. Then this week Tuesday, April 28, FC blasted Chippewa Falls McDonell at home 16-2 in five innings. FC scored 15 of its runs in the second and third innings combined. FC plays at McDonell again this Thursday, April 30 in Chippewa Falls and then host Prescott in a rescheduled contest on Friday. The Crickets are 8-3-1 overall. FC plays Loyal and then back-to-back games with Cadott next week.

Osseo-Fairchild has been on a winning streak as well, albeit by closer margins than Fall Creek. O-F edged Eleva-Strum at Spangberg Field last week Tuesday, April 21. Brooks Koxlien was the winning pitcher as he didn't allow a hit and struck out three in three and two-thirds innings. Emerick Korger scored on a squeeze play in the seventh that broke a 2-2 stalemate. The Thunder rallied again at home vs. Lincoln last week Thursday, April 23. In fact they trailed for much of the ballgame down 3-1. But the Thunder rallied to tie 3-3 and force extra innings and there Mason Schmidt belted a two-run, walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth. Schmidt was also the winning pitcher. Koxlien, Drew Hanson and Blaine McCune all had two hits for the Thunder and Koxlien hit a double and drove in three runs. Korger also doubled. O-F closed the week with a 12-4 triumph over Alma/Pepin in Alma on Tuesday, April 28. Drew Paulus struck out six and scattered four hits to get the win. Mason Schmidt's bat continued to be hot as he crushed a home run and drove in four. Koxlien and McCune also had two hits. The win put O-F over the .500 mark at 5-4, 3-2 in the Large Dairyland and still in contention. The Thunder are in action again Friday at Whitehall starting at 5 p.m.

The loss to Osseo-Fairchild, followed up by an 18-4 floor pounding by top-ranked Elk Mound ;last week Thursday, April 23, were part of a three-game losing streak which put the Cardinal below .500. But Central has rallied back for a pair of wins to make them 5-4 overall too, 3-2 in the Large Dairyland. The Redbirds edged Cochrane-Fountain City at home Friday, April 24 and followed it up with a 13-3 win at Lincoln on Tuesday, Aprl 28. The Cards are at rival Augusta on Friday, May 1. The Beavers, 1-6 overall, remain winless in the Large Dairyland as they lost last week 16-8 at home to Melrose-Mindoro on April 21, 12-11 at Alma/Pepin on Friday, April 24. Against the first place Mustangs, Owen Lee had two hits for AHS and teammate Nate Atchinson drove in two runs. Against A/P, the Beaver led 11-4 going into the bottom of the sixth when the Eagles plated seven runs to tie the ballgame and then won it their last at bats. Lee and Colton Winsce both had three hits and Winsce had four RBIs. Augusta is at Mel-Min this Friday, May 1.

Both Eleva-Strum and Osseo-Fairchild clash again next Monday, 4 at 5 p.m. in Osseo at Jon Soiney Field. E-S is also at A/P in Alma next Tuesday, May 5 while the Thunder are at Arcadia.
