Eleva-Strum track teams do well in Early Bird Invite
CENTRAL - The Eleva-Strum Track & Field Team finished first in the girls team standings while the boys took second in the E-S Early Bird Invitational held Tuesday, April 14.
The team scores were as follows: (Boys) 1 Cadott 183, 2 Eleva-Strum 144, 3 Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran 117, 4. Lincoln 95, 5 Cumberland 62, 5 Chippewa Valley Lightning 62, 7 Granton 2

Forty of those points came from senior Aliza Kulig as she won the 100-meter high hurdles in 18:58; the 300-meter low hurdles in :53.94; the high jump at 4-10 and pairing with Annelyse Preston, Callan Skoug and Lydia Nicolet the 1600-meter relay in 4:47.86.
Also getting first places for the Cardinal girls were their 3200-meter relay team of Clara Christ, Lydia Nicolet, Ashlyn Hanson and Annelyse Preston in 11:43;; the 800-meter relay team of Mya Segerstom, Avery Spanberg, Sabrina Brantner and Brenley Bauer in 2:01.53 and the freshman Nicolet in the triple jump at 29-11.
Points for the Redbird girls also came from Lily Ross, fifth in the 100 hurdles; Spanberg, Tatum Koxlien and Segerstrom, third-seventh-eighth in the 100-meter dash; a second place in the 400-meter relay, Spanberg and Bauer, 5-8 in the 200-meter dash; Sydnee Hanner, fifth in the discus; Skoug, eighth in the shot put and fourth in the high jump; Koxlien, sixth in the long jump; Spagnberg, second in the pole vault; and Segerstrom and Ross, both tied for fourth in the pole vault.
Central senior Jaxon Rindal set a new meet and school record in the discus at 144 feet, 10 inches. He also finished second in the shot put. Also winning events for the E-S boys were junior Bo Windjue in the 110-meter high hurdles in :18.53; and senior Russell Heulett in the long jump at 18-6 along with the Cards' 800-meter relay team of Windjue, Luis Kinser, Brock Stendahl and Logan Resenweber in 1:42.
E-S boys also got points from a third in the 3200-meter relay; Brayden Nelson, eighth in the 110 hurdles; Kinser, eighth in the 100; Hulett, second in the 1600-meter run; fourth in the 400-meter relay; Segerstrom and John Kempf, 2-3 in the 400; Nelson and Gabe Wakefield, 5-6 in the 300-meter IM hurdles; Nolan McConnell, fifth in the 200; third in the 1600 relay; Alex Awe and Lucas Grangaard, 6-8 in the 3200-meter run; Wyatt Tucker and Landyn Windjue, 6-8 in the discus; Windjue, Roman Bates and Grangaard, fifth through seventh in the shot put; Bo Windjue and Resenweber, 2-3 in the pole vault; Hulett, third in the high jump and McConnell, eighth in the high jump and fourth in the triple jump.
Both E-S teams finished second in a six-team Dairyland Conference meet, their first outdoor meet of the season, back on April 9, also at Central. Whitehall swept both team titles. Also competing, the Osseo-Fairchild boys were fourth and girls fifth while both Augusta teams were sixth.
Top three placewinners from the Area in each event were as follows: E-S girls 3200-meter relay, first in 12:07; E-S boys 3200-meter relay, second; Augusta's Viola MacDionald, first in the 100-meter high hurdles in :17.88; Spangberg, first in the 100-meter dash in :13:59 with O-F freshman Naomi Hoffman second; Osseo-Fairchild's Dylan Fritz, second in the 100; Augusta sophomore Zale Pettis, first in the mile run with Hulett second; E-S and Augusta, 1-2 in the girls 800-meter relay; E-S boys, first in the 800-meter relay in 1:42.11; E-S boys, third in the 400-meter relay; E-S girls team of Spangberg, Koxlien, Bauer and Segerstrom, first in the 400 relay in :57.16 with O-F third; Osseo-Fairchild and Eleva-Strum 2-3 in the boys 400 relay; Kulig and MacDonald., 2-3 in the 300 hurdles; Wakefield and Nelson, 2-3 in the boys 300 hurdles; the Thunder's Hoffman, winner of the 200-meter dash in 29:04; Fritz, third in the 200; O-F senior Alyssa Burmesch, first in the 3200-meter run in 15:53; Augusta's Dasan Downey, first in the boys' 3200-meter run in 12:14 with O-F's George Clark third; the AHS girls team of Annabelle Goetz, Kinley Nelson, Stephanie Bergman, Zoey Guntner winning the 1600-meter relay in 4:44 with E-S second; E-S boys 1600-meter relay team first in 3:59; Rindal, first in the discus with a throw of 131-11 and second in the shot put; O-F senior Makaela Kiesow, third in the shot put; Kulig, first in the high jump at 4-8 with Guntner second and Jianna Scheffer opf O-F third; Hulett, second in the high jump with Osseo-Fairchild's Maddox Abramczak third; Segerstrom and Ross, tied for third in the pole vault; Hoffman, first in the long jump with a mark of 14-8; Abramczak, third in the long jump; Guntner and Nicolet, 2-3 in the girls' triple jump and the Thunder's Ty Hanson, second in the triple jump.
Fall Creek's first outdoor meet is this Thursday, April 13 in the Menomonie Invitational. E-S's own invite meet is next Tuesday, April 21 at 4 p.m. Besides Central, the following teams will be there: Altoona, Auburndale, Chippewa Valley Lightning Bolts, Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran, Elk Mound, Gilman, Granton, Lincoln and Stanley-Boyd. Next Thursday, April 23 is the Dairyland Conference Relays at Lincoln while FC will compete in the Arcadia Invitational the same day.
