Good opportunities for placement at state track meet for Tri-County area athletes

There are good opportunities for podium placements for Tri-County Area prep track and field athletes at Thursday, June 24th WIAA Division 3 State Track and Field Meet.

This is true for Fall Creek's girls in particular. The Crickets 3200-meter relay team is in the fast heat and has the second best time behind Boscobel, who FC finished behind at last week's sectional meet in Boscobel, at just under 10 minutes even. Team members are: 1) Megan Johnston 10; 2) Katie Kent 11; 3) Emallie Sorensen 9; 4) Jenna Anders 10; 5) Lylian Anderson ; 6) Sophia Schultz 9.

Anders has a good shot at placing in the 800-meter run where she finished second in the sectional meet. Anders is in the fast heat with the third best time.

Also having good chances of placing or even winning their events are Augusta's two sectional champions Ben Dickinsen in the 400-meter dash and Bailey Peterson in the 3200-meter run. Dickinsen has the fastest time going into the meet from sectionals while Peterson has the second fastest time from sectionals.

Fall Creek's Soren Johnson and Andrew Anderson will both be competing in the discus in the state meet with Johnson also throwing the shot put as well. Both are in the top 12 of throws in the discus out of 16 competitors while Johnson is in the first flight of the shot put. FC boys' 3200-meter relay team is in the first heat.

Eleva-Strum's Mitchell Olson will compete in the shot put in the first flight, which he did in last week's sectional and made it to the top four.

The 125th Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Track and Field Championships, the oldest high school meet in the nation, and the 50th Girls Track and Field Champinships will be held Thursday-Saturday, June 24-26, at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Ticket prices for the meet are $11 plus a processing fee for each day of the championships and must be pre-purchased. Tickets may be purchased at: https://www.expressoticketing.com/wiaa/pickevent.aspx.

The meet features a different format than the traditional schedule because of continuing COVID-19 accommodations and guidelines. The three-day event will feature both genders in Division 3 on Thursday, Division 2 and the wheelchair division on Friday, and Division 1 on Saturday. The Division 3 competition begins at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Division 2 and wheelchair events begin Friday at 10:40 a.m., and the Division 1 schedule begins at 11 a.m. Saturday. The competition resumes Saturday at 11 a.m. The order of the events are available on the WIAA website at: https://www.wiaawi.org/Portals/0/PDF/Sports/Track/2020/State%20Meet%20Sc....
