Trempealeau County Board approves covering county budget overrun

WHITEHALL - The Trempealeau County Board of Supervisors approved the cover of a budget account overrun by a 16-1 vote of board members during its February meeting held back on the 16th at the County Government Center.

The County Treasurer's office reportedly went over its 2025 budget for Miscelleneous Charges (largely late tax payment charges) account of $4,000 by $750. The County Board approved the transfer of $4,750.05 from the General Fund Account to the Miscellaneous Charges account to cover those deficits.

The Board unanimously approved a resolution that authorizes the county’s Western Wisconsin Counties Consortium (WWCC) Board appointee to sign the attached “Chief Elected Officials Consortium Agreement of the Western Wisconsin Workforce Development Area.” This comes in the wake of a revamp and reform of the WWCC after investigations found financial and governance problems with the Consortium that was revealed in January's Trempealeau County Board meeting which showed the county being responsible for re-cooping costs from these problems due to Federal law.

The Board unanimously approved a pay raises and benefits for both the Clerk of Court and the Sheriff. These positions will received raises of three percent for the next three years and two percent in 2030. By then the Clerk of Court will be making $85,599.01 and the Sheriff will be making $119.255.59. A motion to table these pay raises until next month for further discussion was defeated with just one vote supporting.

In other agenda items, the Board agreed to table a motion to approve acceptance of the $1,500 mini-grant awarded to the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) from Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging (WIHA) for brain health education and outreach until March's meeting which will take place on Monday, March 16 at the County Government Center at 7 p.m. They also unanimously accepted the amount of $42,755.32 in an amendment to the 2025 Annual Budget for the Trempealeau County District Attorney’s Office to be used a offset for the unexpected expenses; unanimously approved amendment to Trempealeau County Ordinance to update the Emergency Management Provision and a resolution to support the state to become members of the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center.
