Donald A. Gosse

Donald A. Gosse, 93 of Wabasha, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Emplify – St. Elizabeth Nursing Home, Wabasha.Donald Anthony was born June 13, 1932 in Wabasha to Lydia (Averbeck) and Anthony Gosse. He attended country school through 8th grade and then started farming. On September 11, 1954, he married Betty Lou Gander. Betty passed away on October 13, 2023, which left a huge void in his heart as they were in-separable their entire 69 years of marriage. Donald, who was known by many for wearing his hat crooked on his head, farmed until 1974 and then was employed at J.G. Dill Company, Wabasha for 20 years. He also mowed for the City of Wabasha and was a bailiff for Judge Walters for a short time. He was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church. Donald had a love for music and at a young age formed a band, The Don Gosse and His Polka Masters, in February 1951 and they played for many years in various area venues. He could often be found swinging his beloved wife around on the dance floor, no matter where they were. It was never a question that Donald's faith and family were his pride and joy. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren at their many sporting and school events. He also loved watching the Twins and Vikings. He is survived by his children: Peter (Cindy); Buck (Michelle); Steve (Kathy); Joe (Justin Tyler); and Lori (Jay) Dunagan; 12 grandchildren: Brian (Nicole); Jamie; Eric; Tony (Hope); Brandon (Ashlee); Scott (Michelle); Stephanie (Brandon); Jed (Tara); Heather (Royce); Megan (Paul); Zach (Chloe); Adam (Ella); 33 great grandchildren and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty; and siblings: Bunnie Suilman, Marie Marx, and Lucille Wallerich.Funeral Mass was 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at St. Felix Catholic Church, Wabasha, with Rev. Tom Loomis officiating. Interment was at St. Felix Cemetery, Wabasha.Visitation was 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha and began at 10:30 a.m. at the church on Wednesday.Memorials can be directed to the Activities Department at Emplify – St. Elizabeth Nursing Home and Assisted Living.The family would like to thank the assisted living staff, nursing home staff and St. Croix Hospice for their special care of Don.Services entrusted to Abbott Funeral Home & Crematory, Wabasha, MN.
