Doris C. Baker

Doris C. Baker, 92 of Wabasha, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Emplify-St.Elizabeth Health Care Center, Wabasha, surrounded by her family. Doris Catherine was born November 1, 1933, in Kellogg, MN to Mabel (Johnson) and Herman M. Gander. She graduated from Wabasha High School and was a lifelong area resident. On September 26, 1953, she married Lloyd Baker at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kellogg. Together they raised five children: Bruce, Dale, Kenneth, Keith and Nancy. Lloyd passed away in 1982. Doris was employed at the ASCS Office, Wabasha for 30 years, retiring in 1991. She received numerous community services awards from the ASCS Office. Doris served on the Kellogg City Council for many years. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, St. Agnes CCW, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Throughout the years she traveled to many destinations. Doris loved playing all different card games with family and friends; putting crossword puzzles together; playing dominoes and loved her Bingo at the Health Care Center, where she was very good at winning! Doris loved her Monthly Birthday Club lunches and her Saturday morning breakfast with her siblings. She also enjoyed crafting, especially quilting, where she made her children and grandchildren quilts for wedding presents.
She is survived by her children: Bruce (Beverly) Baker; Dale (Donna) Baker; Kenneth (Brenda) Baker; and Nancy (James) Olson; four grandchildren: Natalie (Bruce) Wood; Dustin (Molly) Baker; Benjamin (Sophie) Baker; and Monica (Mike) Marana; five great grandchildren: Kallie (Tyler) Lehnertz; Ryanne Baker; Braiden Baker; Lyla Baker; Dawson Baker; two great great granddaughters: Lennon and Madelyn Lehnertz; siblings: Herman (Carol) Gander; Norma Bulver; Mary (Darrell) Gusa; and Elaine (Harlan) Dillinger; a sister-in-law Shirley Gander; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Keith Baker; sisters: Helen Volkman, Eva Jean Lawler and Betty Gosse and a brother James Gander. Funeral Mass was 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kellogg, with Rev. Tom Loomis officiating. Interment was at St. Agnes Cemetery, Kellogg. Casket bearers were Natalie and Bruce Wood; Dustin and Molly Baker; and Ben and Sophie Baker. Visitation began at 10 a.m.
Tuesday at the church. Memorials can be directed to the St. Elizabeth’s Activities Department. Services entrusted to Abbott Funeral Home & Crematory, Wabasha, MN. Words of sympathy or remembrance may be left at www.abbottfh.com
