Dorothy R. Costello, 90 of Wabasha, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Gundersen Saint Elizabeth Care Center, Wabasha, MN, with family at her side
Dorothy Rosalie was born March 10, 1930, in Alton, IL to Eugene and Rosalie (Gramlich) Koehne. She graduated from Brighton High School, Brighton, IL and also from a cosmetology school. She served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. On January 23, 1954, she married Donald Costello in Patuxent, Maryland. He preceded her in death May 23, 1991.
She was employed at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center as a physical therapy aid for 20 years. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and working in her flower garden. She was member of the St. Elizabeth Auxiliary, The Dorothy Club, The Lady Foresters, and the American Legion Post 50, Wabasha.
She is survived by four children: Mary (Rob) Carrels; Mike (Nicki) Costello; Rosie (Bill) Schmit; and Kathy (Peter) Ekstrand; nine grandchildren: Jena (Shaun) Spencer; Abby (Jason) Timm; Rob (Londa) Costello; Kelly Costello; Jessica (Ed) Graner; Tom (Dee Dee) Schmit; Michael (Jean) Wills; Eric (Dal) Wills; and Anne (Travis) Klassen; two step grandchildren: Ehren (Jenni) Ekstrand and Amy (Benji) Richardson; 10 great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; a brother Lewis “Buddy” Koehne; a sister Mary (Don) Elliott; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; a son David; two children in infancy: Robert and Janet; and a sister Micky Rutledge.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha. Interment will be at St. Felix Cemetery, Wabasha. Military rites will be provided by members of the Wabasha American Legion Post #50, the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 and the MNARNG Honor Guard.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
