Janice “Jan” L. Sullivan

Janice“Jan”L. Sullivan, 78-year-old resident of Wabasha, MN passed away July 14, 2025, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse, WI. A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery in Kellogg, MN.Jan was born on November 7, 1946, in Rochester, MN to Carl and Ethel(Bergstresser)Welsh.She was the youngest off our children. During her youth she rode horses,played with her cats and dogs and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.Jan attended country school and graduated from Dodge Center High School with the class of 1964. Shortly after graduation,Janice marriedRichard “Dick” Cotter. The couple eventually settled outside of Wabasha on Sand Prairie,and Jan worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.Dick passed away suddenly onAugust 23, 1972.She found love again and was united in marriage to Francis“Butch’’Sullivan on October 19, 1974,at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg, MN. The couple was blessed with a son, David, and Jan became a stay-at-home mom to take care of him full-time. She will be remembered as someone who was always there whenever anyone needed her, no matter what the circumstances were,especially for her husband and son. Her hobbies included caring for her animals, raising plants, traveling, doing jigsaw puzzles, collecting Frankoma pottery, hunting for rocks & arrowheads, reading, volunteering,playing the piano,swimming, and listening to music (mainly country & Elvis Presley). Jan & Frank even used to square dance! Jan is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Francis“Butch”Sullivan of Wabasha, MN; son, David Sullivan of Kellogg, MN;beloved cats, Fluffy, Harry, Mynx, Jet, Sassy, Dynamo;siblings, Roger Welshof Rochester, MN;Joyce (Scotty) Farmer of Jackson, MS; many nieces & nephews; grand-nieces & grand-nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ethel Welsh;first husband,Richard “Dick” Cotter;brother, Richard Welsh; and many beloved pets.Services entrusted to Abbott Funeral Home & Crematory, Wabasha, MN.
