Lawrence (Larry) Henry Cheslik
Lawrence passed away on June 12 at age 95. Born September 14, 1929, Lawrence grew up in Wabasha MN, the eldest of three. At the age of 11, after his dad died, he helped his mother run a neighborhood grocery store. Lawrence worked as a section hand on the railroad during WWII. After high school he attended St Mary’s College in Winona for one year. He then worked for three years at the Wabasha County Engineering Department, while dating Antoinette. In 1951, at the start of the Korean War, Lawrence enlisted in the Navy, serving 4 years as a meteorologist on a seaplane tender in the South Pacific. In 1952, Lawrence married Antoinette and when he was not at sea, they were stationed in Seattle and San Diego. Onboard ship, he won $1400 playing poker to buy their first car, a new 1954 Chevrolet. After the Navy, Lawrence completed a degree at the University of Minnesota with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Biomedical Statistics. The day after he graduated, he went to work at Prudential Insurance company, where he worked for 31 years. He had a successful career as an actuary and later managing computer systems for issuing insurance policies. Lawrence and Antoinette lived in St Louis Park for over 65 years. Lawrence retired at age 58 so he could spend more time on his hobbies and interests of fishing, golf, ski-ing, traveling, winters in Arizona and bridge. His love was teaching his friends and family, especially grandchildren, to fish. He never tired of hearing a good fishing story. Lawrence is survived by his children Susan (Kevin) Daly, Janet (Robert) Daly, Paula (Ross Martin) Cheslik, Stephen (Mary) Cheslik. Grandpa Larry loved being a grand-father to his 11 grandchildren Shannon (Jereme) Bates, Jason (Marisa Bayer) Daly, Brandon Daly, Shawn (Hanna) Daly, Rachel Cheslik, Sarah (Joel) Bourdess, Micah Cheslik, Brianna Cheslik, Tyler (Miriam) Cheslik, Samuel Cheslik, grandson-in-law Ed Bermingham and 10 great grandchildren Ava, Jack and Will Bates, Eddie Bermingham, Della and Henri Daly, Amos and Verity Bourdess, Elise and Olivia Daly. Lawrence is lovingly reunited with his wife Antoinette, his beloved granddaughter Ni-cole Bermingham, sister Fran Gillen, brother Vincent Cheslik, and parents Vincent and Anna Cheslik.A heartfelt thank you to the caregivers from Dignified Choice Care for the loving care they gave Larry.Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 7 at 11 AM at St Mary of the Lake Cath-olic Church, 105 Forestview Lane N, Plymouth. Visitation one hour prior. Lunch and eulogies following.
