Vera Mae Miller

Vera Mae Miller, age 89, of Lake City, MN, formerly of Wabasha, MN passed away March 1, 2026, at the Elysian Senior Homes of Lake City, MN.Vera was born February 18, 1937, in Menahga, MN to Lowell and Dora Hought. She graduated from Breckenridge High School, Breckenridge, MN, in 1955. In the summer of 1957, she met Veryl “Bud” Miller at a dance and they were married August 10th, 1958, at Foxhome Lutheran Church, in Foxhome, Minnesota. They were married for 65 years before Bud’s death in August 2023. They briefly lived in Truman, MN before then moving to Wabasha, MN in 1959. Over their marriage, they were blessed with three children, Jeffrey “Jeff”, James ”Jim”, and JoAnn.Vera was very much a people person. With every person she met, she always took a genuine interest in getting to know them. Her smile and warmth were ever present in her speech. She enjoyed being with family and friends, especially the last two and a half years, with her new friends at Elysian. They were always the last ones to leave the dining room. She loved to laugh, was kind and generous, and a very grateful person, often using her signature phrase, “Thank you, thank you, thank you”.In addition to helping Bud at Florin Dairy, Vera worked for many years at the Wabasha County DAC. She volunteered at churches, Redeemer Luther-an and Faith Lutheran. She also volunteered at the Semcac Meals on Wheels delivering meals, served on the board of directors of Riverview Cemetery Association, visiting caregivers and care receivers through Elder Network, and for more than 25 years she was a hospice volunteer.Vera loved and enjoyed mu-sic very much. She enjoyed playing the stump fiddle, and singing along with her sister Marty, and her friend Deanna, for residents at area nursing homes. She also played hand bells in a hand bell choir for many years. Over the years, she taught silly songs to her grandchildren from memory. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud; grandsons Michael and Allen; brothers Leo Hought and Konrad Hought, and a sister. Rose Matta; brothers-in-law George Heino, Dean Larson, Ray Matta, and Virgil “Sonny” Miller, Jr.; and sister-in-law Wanda Hought. She is survived by her three children: Jeff (Julie) Miller of Lake City, Jim Miller of Waba-sha, and JoAnn (Ron) Freeman of Ladysmith, WI; grandchil-dren Jenelle (Dan) Donahue, Jaylin, Jamie (Kevin) Sprout, Justine, Ryan, Ben, Amy, Ruth, Elijah, Luke, and Miriam, great-grandson Jarrett, and great-granddaughter Vivianna Vera, brothers Tom (Roberta) Hought, John Hought, and sisters, Marty Heino and Bar-bara Larson; and sisters-in-law Lorene Hought and Darlene Hought.Visitation for Vera was Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, Wabasha. Funeral service was at 11 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2026, at Faith Lutheran Church, Wabasha, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Wabasha.Memorials can be directed to Faith Lutheran Church, River-view Cemetery, Semcac Meals on Wheels, or to a charity of your choice in honor of Vera.Services entrusted to Abbott Funeral Home & Crematory, Wabasha, MN.
