William "Bill" M. Fitzgerald

William "Bill" M. Fitzgerald, 71-year-old resident of Wabasha, MN passed away March 16, 2026 at the Mayo Clinic St. Mary's Campus in Rochester, MN.Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 AM on March 23, 2026 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg, MN. Visitation was from 4-7 PM on Sunday evening at Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church.Bill was born on April 28, 1954 to John "Jack" and Dorothy Fitzgerald at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Wabasha. He graduated from Wabasha High School with the class of 1972. Bill went on to further his education at Winona Votech earning a degree in Business and Marketing in 1973. His love of farming kept him farming most of his life with his dad; brother, Jim; and his nephew, David in recent years. Bill operated an insurance business for and number of years. He served on the St. Agnes Church Board and Farm Service Administration for nine years. In his later years, he developed property for building lots. Bill loved his dogs and cows. He enjoyed selling sweet corn and traveling out west. Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor and his quick wit."A special thanks to Rhonda who stood by my side and supported me for 30 years, and to Dean Stromness for sticking by me for years helping me to farm, and Jason Fitzgerald for all you support and help whenever I needed it." Bill is survived by the love of his life, Rhonda Leisen; her children, Shawn (Rachael) Leisen, Amanda (Rob) Birkeneder; her grandchildren, Trent Birkeneder, Triston Birkeneder; sister-in-law, Sandra Fitzgerald; many nieces and nephews who were close to his heart.He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John "Butch" Fitzgerald, James Fitzgerald; and sister-in-law, Kathy Fitzgerald.Memorials are preferred to Gunderson St. Elizabeth's Foundation, Wabasha-Kellogg Playground Fund, or Wabasha Food Share.
