Last week on Thursday, Oct. 1, the Mondovi cross country team traveled to Osseo-Fairchild to compete in their meet.
It was beautiful weather, not too hot, not too cold. Finally, both the boys and the girls teams had five runners, so they were both able to place as teams. Also that day, every runner on the squad broke their personal records.
Senior Maddie Gilbertson placed in the top 20 with her time of 22:44. Next in for the Lady Buffs was senior Amanda Rud in 29th place with a time of 23:24. Sophomore Emily Flaskrud was not far behind in 32nd place in 23:55 followed by sophomore Grace Weinzierl in 73rd place in 28:04, and senior Emily Johnson in 76th place with a time of 28:32.
The Mondovi girls placed ninth as a team.
On the boys’ side, Mondovi junior Zach Kluge placed 39th with a time of 19:16 followed closely by senior Jason Fath in 41st place with a time of 19:23. In 54th place was junior Daniel Gruber with a time of 20:15 followed up by senior Ty Parker in 62nd place with a time of 21:37. Last in for the boys was senior Onno Kluge in 68th place with a time of 24:29.
The boys placed eighth overall in the O-F meet.
The Mondovi runners will compete in the Eleva-Strum Invite this Thursday, Oct. 8, and will run again on Saturday morning, Oct. 10, at the Schultz Family Farm in Arcadia. This is also where Mondovi will be running Sectionals this year.
