Buffaloes take down Cardinals and Bulldogs

Last week was very successful for the Mondovi boys basketball team as they played Spring Valley and Boyceville for a pair of Dunn-St. Croix Conference games.
On Thursday, Jan. 14, the boys went to Spring Valley to take on the Cardinals. With a very close first half, Mondovi trailed by one at halftime. From there, the Buffaloes took the lead and ended the second half with 34 points over the Cardinals’ 21 to take the win, 55-43.
Mondovi’s top scorers for the night were Greg Poeschel with 20 points and Blake Purdy with 19. Purdy also led in rebounds, collecting 13, and Branden Becker closely followed with 10.
Spring Valley’s top scorer was Sean Borgerding with 12 points.
On Saturday, Jan. 16, the Buffaloes hosted Boyceville. With yet another close first half, the boys went into the locker room only leading by two, 28-26. As in the Spring Valley game, the Buffaloes kept increasing their lead in the second half and managed to hold the Bulldogs to 18 points to win going away, 63-44.
Poeschel once again paced the Buffaloes with 15 points followed closely by Purdy with 14. Also worth noting, freshmen Avery Hoepner scored his first points of the season on a quick-fired “3.”
Lead scorers for the Bulldogs were Bryce Boda and Micadin Kahl, both with 15 points.
Mondovi will play Durand at home on Friday, Jan. 22, and will take on Eleva-Strum on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
