Cardinal boys notch 2-1 week

In a busy week for the Eleva-Strum boys basketball team, the Cardinals split a pair of Dairyland Conference games and wrapped up the week with a win in a rescheduled non-conference game against Royall.

On Tuesday, Jan. 19, the Cardinals had a home game against Whitehall, taking the 61-47 victory. Mathew Higley took the lead with 16 points this game, followed by Bennett Moen with 14 points, and Drew Severson with 11. This game also ended with a total of 17 turnovers.

The boys also hosted Cochrane-Fountain City, one of the top Large Dairyland teams, on Friday, Jan. 22. The Cardinals put up a good fight, but lost by just nine points by a score of 66-57. This time Severson was the top scorer for E-S with 16 points, Moen had 15, and Higley turned in 12.

The Cards’ last game of the week took place on Saturday, Jan. 23, in a make-up doubleheader against Royall. E-S came out on top, 63-53, for their second win of the week. Higley led again with 14 points, and Cade Kunferman and Severson followed with 12 points.

The boys played a non-conference game at home on Tuesday, Jan. 26, against Mondovi and will travel to Augusta on Thursday, Jan. 28.
