Cora Davis

Cora Amanda Davis, 84, of Eau Claire, formerly of Mondovi, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, at Our House Memory Care, in Eau Claire, surrounded by her family.
She was born on Dec. 21, 1934, in Gilmanton, to Elmer and Gladys (Hutchinson) Rud. She grew up there and graduated from Gilmanton High School. She was united in marriage to Noel Grant “Jerry” Davis on March 7, 1953, in Winona, Minn. Together the couple raised five children. Jerry died on Sept. 6, 1989.
Cora worked a number of different jobs before opening the Hamburger House, in Mondovi. She went on to receive her CNA certification and worked at nursing homes for a number of years. She was a longtime member of Gilmanton United Methodist Church and of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Cora was an amazing cook and baker and loved to work in her vegetable garden. She was also a fantastic hostess and could feed any guest that stopped by to play cards or visit. She loved to sing and play guitar. She loved her grandchildren and they all held a special place in her heart. Cora will be forever missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by four children, Dennis (Sandra) Davis of Fountain City, Mark Davis of Mondovi, Kim (Dale) Snyder of Mondovi, and Scott (Linda) Davis of Mondovi; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Jordan) Kalmes, James (Heather) Davis, Jeremy Davis, Erica (Kenneth) Larson, Joshua (Sarah) Snyder, Amanda (James Winn) Davis, Joseph (Sarah) Davis, Jana Snyder, and Denise (Quint) Yapp; 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Bernard (Lucille) Davis of Mondovi, Lyle Kent of Gilmanton, and Donny (Ruth) Hanson of Mondovi; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Davis; son, Keith Edward Davis; parents, Elmer and Gladys Rud; six sisters, Bernice Dregney, Margy Davis, Alma Jean Hanson, Lyla Kent, Helen Bartholomew and Bernita Forthun; five brothers, Duane, Rolland, Merle, Dale and Doyle Rud.
The family would like to thank the staff at Our House Memory Care and St. Croix Hospice for their exceptional love and care of their mom.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Gilmanton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Claire Mather officiating. Burial followed in Gilmanton Cemetery. Visitation was for one hour prior to the service.
Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home, Mondovi, assisted the family with arrangements.
