E-S baseball takes home fourth win of season!

The current Eleva-Strum varsity baseball team is well on its way to being one of the most successful Cardinal teams in recent years, having won their fourth game of the season this week.

Eleva-Strum started the week on a less successful note, facing off against Independence/Gilmanton on Monday, May 18, at home. Eleva-Strum fought to put a run on the board in the first inning, but the Indees held them back. The score remained tied at zero until the third inning, when I/G broke away with an unexpected three-run streak. They quickly added two more runs to their lead in the fourth. E-S scored its one and only run in the fifth, but it was hardly enough to keep their opponents from racking up another five runs. Indy/Gilmanton tacked on one final run in the sixth to earn the victory, 11-1 over the Cardinals.

The main event of the week came three days later, when the Cardinals traveled to Granton. Eleva-Strum again tried to nail down an early lead, but the Panthers shut them down. Neither side scored until Granton snuck one runner home in the third. The Panthers brought one more runner home in the fourth, building a narrow lead. Out of the blue, Eleva-Strum sent six runners around the bases in the fifth inning, rapidly turning the tables on their opponents. The Panthers struggled to respond until the final inning, where they scored two runs. The Cardinals tacked on three more runs in the same inning to stake their claim on the win, a 9-4 victory.

As the regular season winds down for the Cardinals, they are eagerly setting their sights on the post-season. E-S will play a double-header on Thursday, May 28, to finish the season, hosting both Durand and Neillsville that night.
