Gene Weiss

Gene A. Weiss, 82, of Mondovi, died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, at the American Lutheran Home, Mondovi.
He was born on Jan. 3, 1935, at home, in the Township of Alma, the son of the late Arnold and Ilma (Schultz) Weiss.
Gene was a proud graduate and Valedictorian of Gilmanton High School in 1953. He attended UW-River Falls, until returning to the family farm when one of Gene’s brothers was called to active duty. Gene was united in marriage to Janice Pronschinske on June 26, 1957, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Waumandee, and to this union eight children were born.
Gene and Janice purchased a farm in French Valley, Town of Gilmanton, in 1961. They retired in 1997, as they had sold their farm to two of their sons. Gene remained on the farm until he and his wife moved to Mondovi in 2005.
Gene was a director of the National Farmers Organization and served on the local organization in several different capacities.
He also served on the board of Dairyland Power in La Crosse and Buffalo Electric, now known as Riverland Energy Co-op.
Gene was an active and faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a cutting edge man with installing one of the first rotary milking parlors along with other innovative farming practices. Gene was a hard working man, who was devoted to his community, his farm and the land.
Gene thoroughly enjoyed playing cards, bowling and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and other school activities.
The greatest moments in Gene’s life was the love he had for his wife, children and grandchildren
