George Kees

George Wayne Kees, 93, of Chippewa Falls, Wis., died of natural causes on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls.
He was born on Oct. 1, 1923, in Durand, to Clayton and Mary (Johnson) Kees. George grew up in Durand and Mondovi, later moving to Prescott, and then to Ladysmith in 1969. He resided in Gordon, Wis., until entering the Veterans Home.
He married Ida Swain on May 16, 1942, in Mondovi. She preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1978. He then married Marina Salinas on March 24, 1983. She passed away on May 22, 2012.
George served in the U.S. Army for two years during WWII, at which time he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He attended culinary school, was a chef, and later went in to food management. He worked in food service at UW-River Falls and Mount Senario College in Ladysmith. He retired and became a full-time fisherman and hunter. In addition to hunting and fishing, he loved to dance, yodel and play harmonica. He was raised in the Lutheran Church and in later years joined the Truth Faith.
He is survived by his son, Dennis Wayne Kees (wife, Mary); three daughters, Donna Rae McClure (husband, Tim), Diana Lou LaMar (husband, Bud “Cecil”), Karen Kay Kmosena (husband, Dave); 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judith Lynn Fiveash (husband, John); six brothers, Raymond, John, Clifford, Kenny, Hubert and Walter; four sisters, Aggie, Caroline, Gladys and Bessie.
Memorial services were held on Friday, Sept. 8, at Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith with Rev. Craig Zandi officiating. Military Burial Rites were provided by the Ladysmith Veterans Association.
