Gilmanton boys fall at New Auburn over break

by Nick Urness, student writer

On Tuesday, Dec. 29, the Gilmanton boys basketball team traveled to New Auburn to take on the Trojans and came home with a loss with a score of 83-67.

With a two hour long ride and no school there was not much focus to start off the game. That hurt the Panthers early because they were unable to make shots, while New Auburn did. At one point in the first half when the score was 20-19 with the Panthers trailing, New Auburn was shooting an outstanding 75 percent from the field. This caused the Trojans to gain some momentum with the hot shooting and allowed them to go into halftime up five with a score of 38-33.

The Panthers continued to struggle and were never able to get into a groove due to the fact that they were trailing the entire game. New Auburn shot an outstanding 65 percent from the field for the game while the Panthers shot just 39 percent.

Damontae Dewitt and Nick Urness led the Panthers with 15 points apiece. Urness also had six assists and eight steals. Austin Johnson also chipped in with 13 points, followed by Derric Gray with 12 points.

The boys will forget about this one and will try to build off of it. The Panthers traveled to Independence on Tuesday, Jan. 5, and will travel to Melrose-Mindoro next Thursday, Jan. 14, to take on the Mustangs.
