Kathleen Dawson

Kathleen “Kathy” Rohr Dawson, 68, of Mondovi, left to go to her heavenly home after a long struggle with cancer on Saturday, Oct. 13.
She was born on Nov. 1, 1949, to Harold and Vina Rohr. She was married to her sweetheart, Jim Dawson, on Feb. 14, 1991, in Alma, Wis., on the shores of the Mississippi River.
Kathy was gifted in hospitality; her door was always open and she welcomed anyone that visited. She had a great passion for all animals and wildlife. She especially loved bird watching and making sure they were fed. She could also name the type of bird at the feeder and knew exactly when it would arrive in the spring.
Kathy was a great outdoor enthusiast. She was a deer hunter for several years and shot trap with Jim at the Mondovi Conservation Club. She also took up the game of golf. Her goal became to play a round of golf a week. She was able to play several courses in Wisconsin, California, Florida, and in the Caribbean Islands.
Kathy worked for the Mondovi Herald-News for several years. She then began work at Northcentral Crop Insurance, which later became Great American Crop Insurance, and retired in 2016. She loved her fellow coworkers in each place she worked.
Kathy had a strong faith in God, leaving a legacy of “Faith Over Fear,” a fabulous sense of humor, and a strong love of life and family.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Jim, and two sons, Sean (Kim) Gullickson and Andy (April Gimme) Gullickson. Kathy was also a part of a blended family. Survivors include Dawn (Scott) Smith, Danny (Michelle) Dawson, and Bill (Laurie) Dawson. She is also survived by her three brothers, David, Michael and John, and two sisters, Barb and Mary. Being a grandma to her 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson meant the world to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Vina Rohr; her brother-in-law, Charles Helsel.
The family thanks all the neighbors, friends, and the wonderful health care teams at Mayo Cancer Center and Mayo Hospice for their friendship, love, and endless support.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
A Celebration of Life for Kathy will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home, 465 W Main St., Mondovi. A time of sharing followed by a rosary service will be held at 3 p.m.
Online condolences may be shared at www.kjentvet-smithfuneralhome.com.
