The Mondovi Lady Buffaloes played in two challenging Dunn-St. Croix Conference games against Boyceville and Colfax last week.
On Tuesday, Dec. 16, the girls made their way to Boyceville to face the Bulldogs. The girls played in a very competitive first half, ending it trailing 27-15.
The girls quickly stepped back out on the court to fight back, scoring 19 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to take down the Bulldogs. Boyceville took the game 52-34.
Mattie Mahlum led the team with 13 points, followed by Makenzy Christopherson with seven and Amanda Rud with six.
Three days later, on Friday, Dec. 19, the girls hosted a game against their conference rivals, the Colfax Vikings. The Buffaloes started off strong, winning the jump and scoring the game’s first two points, but Colfax didn’t let that shake them. The Vikings stormed back to take the lead, winning the first half with a score of 24-12. The Buffaloes scored a few points more than the opening half, but Colfax had a strong lead and ended the game with the 54-27 advantage over the Lady Buffs.
Mahlum paced Mondovi once again with 13 points that game followed by Shanna Laehn with six.
The girls made a long trip to Holmen for a rescheduled non-conference game on Monday, Dec. 22. The team will now take a break over Christmas and resume action with the annual holiday tournament on Dec. 29 and 30, hosted by Bloomer this year. Mondovi will face neighboring rival Durand in the tournament’s opening game, slated for a 1 p.m. start on Monday, Dec. 29.
