Lady Buffs play back-to-back non-conference games over holiday break

Over Christmas break, the Mondovi Lady Buffs took on two non-conference teams despite the winter weather. On Tuesday, Dec. 29, the Lady Buffs took on the Fall Creek Crickets in Fall Creek.
Starting the game off with a slow pace, the Lady Buffs only managed to score eight points against the Crickets’ defense. Having a wide variety of threats in the low post, Fall Creek put 26 points on the board in the first half. The biggest thing racking up the score for the Buffs were free throws and they were crucial.
At halftime, Mondovi head coach Kyle Kaufman gave a speech regarding how the Lady Buffs needed to show Fall Creek their pace, and the Lady Buffs came out scoring in the second half. Yet Fall Creek didn’t back down and kept their solid defense, leading to a tough 56-25 loss for the Lady Buffs.
Leading scorers for Mondovi were Haley Poeschel and McKenzie Akina with five points apiece followed by Sydney Ede with four points.
Leading the Crickets were Whitney Folkers with 16 points and Olivia Burghardt with 13.
The next day the Lady Buffs took on the Bloomer Blackhawks at home for another non-conference game.
The Lady Buffs were ready for another chance at competing on the court and put up 17 points in the first half, but the Blackhawks put up 40 to gain a big advantage.
In the locker room, the Lady Buffs discussed what they needed to do to improve and how they could help each other succeed in this game. Unfortunately the Blackhawk defense stood strong and only let the Lady Buffs score 11 points in the second half, leading to a 67-28 win for Bloomer.
Leading scorers for the Lady Buffs was a tie between Anna Accola, Amanda Rud, and Haley Poeschel, all with five points.
Leading scorers for the Blackhawks were A. Seibel with 15 and J. Burgess with 9.
The Mondovi girls delved back into Dunn-St. Croix Conference play with a trip to Spring Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The Lady Buffs will also play another non-conference game against Holmen at home next Monday, Jan. 11, before hosting new DSC foe Durand on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
