Adding on a new holiday giving effort this year, Lookout Legends 4-H youth and parents combined their talents to make 12 fleece tie blankets to donate to area residents in need. 4-Hers also went shopping for local kids in need and acted as Salvation Army bell ringers this holiday season.

Lookout Legends 4-Hers give back to area community for Christmas

The Lookout Legends 4-H Club recently completed its annual slate of Christmas community service projects and added on a new effort this year.

In keeping with Lookout Legends traditions, members acted as Salvation Army bell-ringers in Gilmanton one weekend in November and also went shopping for local children in need on Sunday, Dec. 7.

Prior to heading up to Eau Claire for their traditional Pizza Hut lunch and Shopko trip together, club members selected three names from a local giving tree. Working together to stay within their budget, the 4-Hers then split up in groups and chose items such as clothing, toys and games to help make Christmas a little brighter for three area kids.

Also this year, Lookout Legends took on the new challenge of making fleece blankets to give to the less fortunate.

At their November meeting, 4-H youth and parents worked to make 12 tie blankets. Three of them were given as Christmas gifts to their giving tree recipients. Six more were donated to the county’s Drug Endangered Children program, an effort offered through a collaboration between the Buffalo County Department of Health and Human Services and local law enforcement. The remaining three blankets left club members bound for the less fortunate in Mondovi.

Club leader Michelle Hovey said it was the group’s first year making the tie blankets, but their efforts were very well-received.
