Mondovi’s Pichler to perform in Rising Stars finals

A Mondovi-area teen is set to showcase her vocal talents at the Overture Center for the Arts in Madison this Saturday, Sept. 19, as part of the Rising Stars Finals competition.

Grace Pichler will sing “Dyin’ Ain’t So Bad” from the Broadway musical “Bonnie and Clyde” in the showcase, held at the historic Capitol Theater.

The Overture’s talent search narrowed a broad field of 160 auditions down to 22 performances that will make up the final showcase, set to feature talent from the greater Madison area as well as Pichler.

The acts and individuals in the finals will compete for cash prizes and a grand prize—a mainstage performance during the Overture’s 2016-17 subscription season.

Five artists will be awarded $250 cash prizes, one each in the adult music, teen music, adult dance, teen dance and youth dance categories. One or two performers will be named the grand prize winner(s) of the professional mainstage performance opportunity.

In addition to singers like Pichler, the Rising Stars Finals will also feature dancers, musical groups, and even a hip-hop trio and a step team to make for a diverse selection of acts in the showcase.

“This is a huge success both in the number of acts who came out to audition, and the level of talent we saw,” said Tim Sauers, the Overture’s vice president of community engagement and programming. “Being as plugged into the local arts scene as we are, we’ve always known this talent is out there in Wisconsin. It’s an incredible experience to bring them all together and get them on our stages and highlight what they can do.”
