Mondovi tennis competes at Middle Border tourney prior to postseason play

This last week on Tuesday, Sept. 29, the Mondovi girls made the trip to Baldwin-Woodville to compete in the Middle Border Conference tennis tournament. The girls had some tough matches but played very well, placing fourth overall.

The scores were as follows: No. 1 singles: Emma Boley — Round 1: won against Durand (6-1) (6-2); Round 2: lost against Baldwin-Woodville (1-6) (6-4) (8-10); Round 3: won against Amery (6-2) (6-4). Boley placed third overall, earning a medal.

No. 2 singles: Maria Jans —Round 1: lost to Osceola (1-6) (3-6); No. 3 singles: Emily Flaskrud — Round 1: lost to Ellsworth (6-1) (0-6) (8-10).

No. 4 singles: Gabby Scott — Round 1: won against Baldwin-Woodville (6-3) (6-2); Round 2: lost against Osceola (4-6) (5-7); Round 3: won against Amery (6-2) (6-4). Scott placed third overall receiving a medal.

Doubles—No. 1 doubles: Amelia Flaskrud and Nola Matchey — Round 1: lost to New Richmond (3-6) (1-6); No. 2 doubles: Sophie Danzinger and Claire Bee — Round 1: lost to Amery (3-6) (2-6); No. 3 doubles: Emily Ness and Miranda Lund — Round 1: lost to Amery (4-6) (2-6). 

The girls also added a match to their schedule last week, after much persistence from the Altoona coach, heading to Altoona Thursday, Oct 1, to brush up before Subsectionals, which took place on Monday, Oct 5.

The individual scores were: Singles - No. 1 singles: Boley — (0-6) (1-6); No. 2 singles: Jans — (1-6) (1-6); No. 3 singles: Jozi Pongratz — (0-6) (0-6); No. 4 singles: Scott — (6-1) (6-3). Doubles — No. 1 doubles: A. Flaskrud and Matchey — (1-6) (0-6); No. 2 doubles: Danzinger and Bee — (1-6) (1-6); No. 3 doubles: Ness and Lund — (1-6) (1-6).

Monday’s Subsectional matches were played on the Altoona and Regis courts. Those who qualified for Sectionals were slated to play on Wednesday, Oct 7.
