Mondovi track competes at conference; girls team takes DSC title

Last Tuesday, May 19, the Buffaloes traveled to Colfax to compete in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference track meet to kick off the championship season.
The meet was very successful, with the girls winning conference with 133.5 points while the boys took sixth place with 64 points.
To start off, Shanna Laehn led the girls team in points with a whopping 38 points, placing first in both the 100 and 300 hurdles and the 100 meter dash, and snagging second in triple jump; Bailey Van Den Heuvel followed with second place in shot put, discus, and the 100 meter hurdles and a surprising fourth place in the 300 meter hurdles; Jacey Risler took fifth in the 100 meter hurdles, third in the 300 meter hurdles, and sixth in pole vault; Kateri Hansen placed eighth in the 1600; Amanda Rud took fifth in the 1600; Liz Berns took fifth in high jump and fourth in long jump; Claire Bee took seventh place in triple jump; Haley Poeschel snatched third in pole vault; Miranda Lund took third in shot put and fourth in discus; and Amelia Flaskrud took seventh in shot put and discus.
The girls 4x800 relay team (Sydney Ede, Hansen, Rud and Grace Weinzierl) took sixth; the girls 4x100 relay team (Bee, Ede, Maria Jans, and Mickena Rennich) took fifth; the 4x200 team (same runners as 4x100), took eighth, and the 4x400 (Bee, Maddie Gilbertson, Hansen and Risler) took sixth.
For the boys, Ryan Jans ran a close race for second in the 110 meter hurdles; Shane Van Roo took seventh in the 110 hurdles and second in the 300 hurdles; Brett Bursaw took sixth in the 100 meter dash; Marc Kluge took sixth in the 1600; Luke Harding took eighth in the 300 meter hurdles and seventh in pole vault; Zach Kluge placed sixth in the 3200; Hunter Evans grabbed third in high jump; Dylan Kowalczyk took sixth in discus and fourth in shot put and Kaleb Schwinefus took seventh in discus.
The boys 4x800 relay team (Daniel Gruber, Marc Kluge, Zach Kluge, and Nash Weiss) took fifth, the 4x100 (Bursaw, Evans, Harding, and Ilya Maro) took fourth, the 4x200 team (Jans, Maro, Michael Stamm, and Jake West) took sixth, and the 4x400 squad (Evans, Harding, Van Roo, and Marc Kluge) took third.
The Buffaloes hosted Regionals on Wednesday, May 27, after the originally-scheduled meet was rained out on Tuesday. Any Sectional qualifiers will head to Amery on Friday, May 29, to compete for a chance to go to state!
