Mondovi volleyball brings home pair of DSC wins

The Lady Buffs volleyball team recently played three matches on the road at Glenwood City, Spring Valley and Plum City.
Mondovi took away a quick win at Glenwood City on Tuesday, Sept. 29, winning in three sets. The Lady Buffs easily won the first two sets, the scores being 25-8 and 25-12, some underclassmen were put in the third set resulting in some confusion, but Mondovi eventually won with a close score of 25-27. Kills leader was Julia Jehn with 12 kills for the night, Payton Johnson had an impressive 11 digs, and Haley Poeschel racked up two aces.
The next game was at Spring Valley on Thursday, Oct. 1, making for the best match the girls have played. The Lady Buffs displayed great skill and awesome coverage, but they simply got out beat. It was a tough loss, with the set scores being so close: 23-25, 22-25, and 18-25.
Jehn once again led Mondovi’s offensive drive with seven kills and Paige Platter and Emily Weiss also racked up six each, Jacey Risler and Johnson played great defense with 13 and 14 digs, respectively, and Anna Accola was a big block threat to the opposing team, setting three impressive solo blocks. The Lady Buffs served strongly too; Weiss, Jehn and Poeschel all had one ace apiece and Mondovi only missed two serves all night as a team.
Wrapping up Dunn-St. Croix Conference action last week was a match against Plum City on Thursday, Oct. 8. Mondovi brought home another win, 3-1, with final scores of 20-25, 25-20, 25-23, and 25-11.
It was Poeschel’s turn to lead the Lady Buffs on offense, as she notched 11 kills while Jehn and Johnson had three and two aces, respectively. The Lady Buffs’ serves were a real offensive weapon in this match. With only two service errors, the team compiled an impressive 97.8 percent serving on the evening.
The Mondovi girls had just one more conference match on the schedule this week, hosting Durand on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The Lady Buffs will also hold their invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17, to brush up heading into postseason play next week.
