Prep for fifth annual Mondovi Women’s Holiday Luncheon in the works
by Beth Kraft
The holiday season can be quite busy, but an annual event will once again offer area women the opportunity to take a time-out and simply enjoy the spirit of the season over lunch together.
The fifth annual Mondovi Women’s Holiday Luncheon will take place at Buzz’s Bar & Grill/Lodge on Thursday, Dec. 10, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Organized by a nine-member committee, this year’s event features a buffet lunch of Presidente hot chicken salad with wild rice, Holiday Caesar Salad, croissants as well as Tuscany Lasagna with garlic toast finished off with festive dessert trays, coffee and Russian tea.
Door prizes, raffles, and a chance to take a well-deserved break to mingle with other women from the local area are also staples of the annual lunch.
Charlie Warner, who took over duties as luncheon committee chair from Katie Mahlum this year, doesn’t anticipate any major changes for this year’s lunch, noting she plans to continue the fun event by “following in the footsteps of our former leaders.
“We are hoping to continue expanding and we’re always looking for others to help organize and plan,” Warner continued.
Issues that the group experienced with the sound system during last year’s lunch have since been resolved, she added.
The 2014 event took place at Buzz’s for the first time and was well-attended, taking in about $3,000 to benefit a few different causes in the city.
“The theme is ‘keeping Mondovi beautiful,’” Warner said. “We’re pushing for anything to make the community aesthetically pleasing.”
Since bringing back the luncheon event in 2011, which initially got started years ago, the committee has donated over $5,000 to help beautify the Mondovi community.
Funds have been received by the Mondovi Garden Club, which will help the group purchase new cement planters that will be installed next year at each of the city’s four corners and next to the library. Holiday luncheon dollars have also gone to support the city’s holiday light fund, providing the Mondovi Women’s Business Network with money to purchase new Christmas decorations. As a result, new snowflakes now light up the four-corners area, complimenting other new snowflake and holiday lights downtown.
In addition to supporting local causes, Warner said experiencing the generosity of the local businesses who donate raffle and door prize items plus the opportunity to visit with other area women are her favorite parts of the annual luncheon.
“The event itself is so joyful,” she said. “Everyone has such a good time and it becomes an all-day event.”
Proceeds from this year’s holiday luncheon will continue to benefit the Mondovi Garden Club and the MWBN’s Christmas light fund.
Luncheon tickets are available at Beauty Nook, Hair It Iz, Shear Trends or from any Holiday Luncheon Committee member for $15 apiece.
Handicap parking is available via the back door entrance to Buzz’s Bar & Grill. Additional parking will also be offered in the lot on the west side of South Eau Claire Street.
