Rodney Peterson

Rodney Peterson, “Butch,” 76 of Augusta, passed away Thursday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2017, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire.
Rodney Wayne Peterson, son of Palmer and Margaret (Flutekiger) Peterson, was born Sept. 4, 1941, in Sparta. He was raised with his five sisters in Sparta, where he attended school and graduated from Sparta High School in 1959.   
Rod served in the Army National Guard (Red Arrow Division) and was activated and deployed to Ft. Lewis, Wash. during the Berlin Wall Crisis. After his honorable discharge. he returned to Wisconsin and was united in marriage to Judy Rud on June 27, 1964, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Gilmanton. He was baptized and confirmed at Good Shepard. Rod and Judy raised their three children in the Gilmanton area, where Rod farmed. He later worked as a mechanic for Fenske Ford in Osseo and then for Kuhn Implement in Granton. He retired from Menard’s in 2006.   After retirement, he enjoyed assisting the Amish with their transportation needs.
In 1982 he married Lois Balliett, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Augusta. Lois and Rod lived all their married life in Augusta. 
Rodney always enjoyed fixing things and attending auctions.  He loved being outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, playing softball or pitching horseshoes. He also enjoyed bowling and watching the Packers, the Brewers and NASCAR. 
Rod will be dearly missed by his wife Lois of Augusta; three children, Wade and Michelle Peterson of Baraboo, Dawn and Todd Quarne of Blair, Troy Peterson of Osseo; two stepchildren, Pamela and Robert Pennone of Satellite Beach, Fla, Anthony “Tony” and Patty Olson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Adam Peterson, Gabrielle Peterson, Monte (Brianna) Amundson, Ty Lunde; five step-grandchildren, Stacy (Justin) Kubitsky, Curtis Olson, Matthew (Calais) Laganosky, Ryan (Mikayla) Quarne, Nate Quarne (Byrnna Stuhr); a great-grandson, Owen Steven Amundson; three sisters, Beverly Austin of Leon, Evonne Busse of Ettrick, Bonnie Ziegler of Sparta; sister-in-law, Louise and Ron Honadel of Augusta; several nieces, nephews and their families.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Margaret; two sisters, Lorraine Zillmer and Marlene O’Neil; son-in-law, Steven Amundson; brothers-in-law, Carl Austin, Preston Busse, Stanley Zillmer, Fritz O’Neil and Vernon Ziegler; several nephews.
A visitation was held Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 3 to 5 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Augusta.  Memorial services were held on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the church, with Pastor Gary Sahs officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
