Upcoming Mondovi game to feature power soccer demo, local youth
by Beth Kraft
Next week’s Mondovi vs. Eleva-Strum varsity boys basketball game will feature a special exhibition match featuring members of a wheelchair power soccer team with ties to the local area.
The Chippewa Valley Hooligans squad is slated to demonstrate its skills during halftime of the boys’ game on Tuesday night, Feb. 3. Tip off for the non-conference game is set for 7:30 p.m. with halftime following at approximately 8 p.m.
Playing in front of his hometown crowd will be Mondovi High School student Nick Nelson, who has been a member of the team since last year. Nelson recently received a new power wheelchair through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, as reported in the Jan. 1 edition of the Mondovi Herald, helping him take his game on the power soccer floor to the next level.
The co-ed Chippewa Valley Hooligans squad consists of individuals of all ages. Nelson and his teammates travel to various cities locally and nationally to compete in power soccer tournaments throughout the year.
