Quinn Olson faked toward the middle and cut toward the sideline to notch a nice gain for the Cards. The junior racked up a game-high 160 yards on the ground and one touchdown for E-S.

Junior Mitchell Hong (11) brought down Alma Center’s Adam Wright. The E-S defense shut down the Hornets, allowing their opponents just one touchdown in the 40-6 rout on Friday night, Oct. 2.

E-S senior Jake Matchey caught up to a scrambling Zach Sheffer.

Protecting the football, senior Coy Christianson (28) plowed through the middle of the Lincoln defense. Christianson recorded 62 yards on seven carries that evening.

E-S defensemen Bennett Moen (71) and Ethan Johnson (74) teamed up for the sack on Lincoln quarterback Jarod Boyer.

E-S defeats Alma Center in third annual ‘Tackle Pink’ game

The Eleva-Strum Cardinals took on the Alma Center Lincoln Hornets on Friday, Oct. 2. The Cardinals put on digital camouflage pink jerseys, hosted a bake sale, t-shirt sales, and a silent auction, all to raise money to help fight cancer. The night was a success as the team raised approximately $1,500.

The evening ended in success on the field as well, as the Cardinals took out the Hornets with a convincing 40-6 victory, chalking up another Dairyland Conference win.

The Cardinals took an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter, and at the end of the first quarter the Cardinals were up 20-0. The Cardinals scored once more before half time to go up 27-0.

Eleva-Strum’s defense was spectacular, giving up just six points in the game after Lincoln scored in the third quarter. The defense also forced three turnovers, and junior Quinn Olson led the offense with 160 rushing yards on 14 attempts. Offensively, the Cardinals had a total of 385 yards. The Hornets ended the night with 140 total yards with 58 yards caught by senior Adam Wright.

The scoring was spread evenly amongst the Cards as touchdowns were recorded by Olson, Jacob Hong, Jake Matchey, Coy Christianson and two by quarterback Jedediah Lorenz. Mathew Higley also chipped in by making good on four of his six extra point attempts.

With the win, Eleva-Strum improved its record to 4-1 in the Dairyland Conference and is currently in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings with Cochrane-Fountain City and Melrose-Mindoro. This Friday, Oct. 9, Eleva-Strum will travel to undefeated Whitehall (5-0 DC, 7-2 overall) for a big Dairyland Conference match-up.
