Three consecutive home games yield tough results for the Lady Buffs

To start off last week, the Lady Buffs took on Holmen on Monday, Jan. 11. The Lady Buffs were also looking forward to the rest of the week with two more home games.

Holmen was a non-conference game that gave the Lady Buffs a great competition and a great battle. Sophomore Haley Poeschel came out strong in the first half, scoring nine points to boost the Lady Buffs’ score to 17. But slow defense by the Lady Buffs led to Holmen scoring 42 points in the first half, putting Mondovi behind.

Coming out of the team room, the Buffaloes were determined to keep putting shots in. With the second half coming to a quick end, the Lady Buffs fell short to Holmen by a final score of 71-39.

Leading scorers for the Lady Buffs were Poeschel with 17 and Anna Accola with six.

Leading scorers for Holmen was tied at nine points between four players: Cortney Christnovich, Brooklyn Paulson, Caitlyn Young and Kendra Leis.

A quick turnaround for a Dunn-St. Croix Conference game against Durand the next night yielded another tough result. Mondovi fought for 36 minutes but didn’t come out on top.

The Lady Buffs managed just three points in the first half while the Panthers scored 28. During the second half of the game the Lady Buffs continued to struggle, resulting in a 55-8 loss to Durand.

The leading scorer for the Lady Buffs was Amanda Rud with five points.

Leading scorers for the Panthers were Ambree Schlosser with 10 points and Amanda Wegner with seven.

Saturday’s game for the Lady Buffs against Boyceville resulted in a tough fight between both teams. It all came down to who wanted to fight longer.

Solid defense and a solid offense resulted in a 23-23 tie between the two teams going into halftime. Sophomore McKenzie Akina put up eight points in the first half to contribute to the Lady Buffs.

Starting out the second half neck-in-neck, the Lady Buffs let down their guard and the Bulldogs climbed up resulting in a tough loss for the Lady Buffs, 56-45.

Leading scorers for the Lady Buffs were Poeschel with 10 and Emily Flaskrud with nine.

Leading scorers for the Bulldogs were Madysn Riek with 21 points and Cassie Malean with 15.

This week the Mondovi girls traveled to Independence for a non-conference game on Tuesday, Jan. 19, and will head to Colfax for a DSC bout on Thursday, Jan. 21.
