New County Clerk appointed for Jackson County

BLACK RIVER FALLS - The Jackson County Board of Supervisors appointed a new County Clerk at their March 16 meeting at the County Government Center.

Melissa Windsor was nominated by two Board members and was given unanimous approved by 16 Board members who attended the meeting.

In another personnel matter, the Board by unanimous vote appointed Human Resource Director Jessica McDonald as interim Administrative Coordinator. They also approved salary raises for the Clerk of Courts and Sheriff of 17.81 percent and 15.27 percent respectively over the next four years

A proposal by the county's Facilities Management Department to replace rooftop units at the Jackson County Jail at a total project cost not to exceed $500,000.00. using county contingency funds up to $250,000, and Ho-Chunk funds up to $250,000, to fund the project was unanimously approved.

In other agenda items, the Board unanimously authorized the county's representatives on the Western Wisconsin Counties Consortium Board to sign the “Chief Elected Officials Consortium Agreement of the Wester Wisconsin Workforce Development Area (WWWDA).” This is an agreement to help reform the WWWDA. They also passed a resolution urging Gov. Evers and the State Legislature to enact a comprehensive, sustainable transportation funding plan. They also unanimously approved authorizing Jackson County to accept monetary gifts, donations, and contributions from private or corporate donors for the benefit of the Jackson County Animal Shelter; unanimously approved giving the Jackson County Highway Committee the full authority of the Board to review, accept, or decline bids for the new Highway Facility project in accordance
with the Jackson County Code of Ordinances, provided that the total project cost shall not exceed $34,000,000; unanimously approved authorizing Ho-Chunk funds in the
amount of $43,000.00, to fund the 2026 Taser Project; unanimously approved revisions to the county's Code of Ethics and Rules of the Board; unanimously approved a "whistleblower's" protection ordinance to the county's code and unanimously approved adopting the amendments to the county's Recycling Ordinance to be updated to the most current DNR model ordinance,
