Osseo City Council withholds funds from pay request for 5th St. Project construction work

OSSEO - The Osseo City Council unanimously withheld $5,000 from a pay application from Haas & Sons Inc. Construction Company during its September meeting back on the 12th in City Hall.

Council members agreed to withhold this portion of the application for $34,077.97 as incentive to finish property restoration at different properties along 5th St, that were affected by the project, especially to driveways and lawns. There were still complaints from homeowners of these particular properties not just for the initial damage to said properties from the curb and gutter work from the 5th St. Project but also a lack of and or shoddy restoration work. A $63,77.27 pay request from Haas for the Community Development Block Grant Revitalization Project was approved.

This agenda item came under the Public Works Department portion of the meeting. The city is still in the process of hiring a new Public Works Director and the Council met in closed session to discuss the matter. No specific hire was made coming out of closed session but a particular candidate was identified as one to negotiate with.

Also in the Public Works Department portion of the meeting, the Council unanimously approved a resolution to combine the recycling units of both the city and the Town of Sumner. They also approved all other invoices and pay requests for the water and wastewater plant projects..

In other agenda items, the Council approved a resolution for a raze order to the building on the property for the former Curt's Auto Body. They also unanimously approved a Certified Survey (CSM) map for Bradley Indrebo on Thomas St. for a lot next to the footbridge in Stoddard Park. They also approved, in the Police Department portion of the meeting, all operator license requests, a Class A liquor license for the Classy Cactus on Thomas St. in Osseo, a picnic license to the Osseo Rural Fire Department for its Fall Fest celebration on Oct. 8 and an amendment to city code on the prohibition of the depositing of delterious substances. This in regards to having manure catchers to any animal drawn carriage or horse or any other animal ride.

Ellen Myhre of the Osseo Historical Society spoke before the Council hoping the city can help the society find spaced somewhere in the city to house its historical displays which currently are at City Hall. She also requested information on the society be posted on the city's website to help promote and provide publicity to the society.
