Special meeting of Eleva Village Board on dredging project
ELEVA - A special meeting of the Eleva Village Board at the Village Hall was held on Dec. 30 concerning the dredging project of the village pond.
The Board unanimously approved a motion taking out additional 20,000 cubic yards of sediment found in the northern part of pond in 2026. They also approved additional engineering fees of up to $11,000 if the change of scope of the project is beneficial to the Village. Comparisons will be made where to take dredging materials and costs for further meetings. Estimates costs for the project could run between $138,000 and $183,000.
During the December meeting of the Board back on the 12th, Village President Roger Forsythe announced he will be staying on the Board through the January meeting on the 12th before stepping down. Forsythe appointed Jacob Mai as Board Member, filling Denise Durham’s Trustee position and the Board unanimously approved the appointment.
There was no action taken with Property Listing Property Minds for Rolling Meadows development as Board members came to consensus that they do not want to split the parcels and are looking for a developer to purchase. No action was taken on other for sale village parcels of land as well.
In other items of sale or purchase, an old village snowblower was sold for $350. The Board agreed to the purchasing two furnaces for the Fire Department from Aiona Heating and Air Conditioning at $4,000 each along with purchasing gun for the Police Department with a trade in of $200 - $300 from old gun. Thery also approved the Eleva-Strum Railriders ATV/UTV Club to purchase a tree to plant in the Eleva Lake Park to use as a Memory Tree next year.
Corner Building Renter is past due on rent and the Board agreed to dispatch a letter to renters they have to December 31, 2025 to be caught up through the end of November or eviction proceedings will begin.
In other agenda items, the Board agreed to renew both CD’s with CCF Bank for seven (7) months at 3.66 percent and they agreed to approve an operator's license, 2025 Holiday Gift Cards of $50.00 each to full time employees. and a two percent Fire Protection Dues increase for 2026 to Village of Eleva and Town of Albion while the Town of Chimney Rock stays the same.
After coming out of closed session, the Board agreed to to give 2026 raises to full time employees as follows: Troy Faulkner $ .25/hour; Brian McCarville $1.00/hour and Sheila Schreiner $ .50/hour. They also approved a motion that starting in 2026 - that a $2,500 stipend will be given to whomever does not take Village Health Insurance. Payments of $1,250 will be made on June 30th and December 31st.
