Trempealeau County Board approves new position of County Administrator

WHITEHALL - The Trempealeau County Board voted unanimously 17-0 to create the position of County Administrator at its July meeting held last week on the 17th in the county courthouse.

The Board agreed with an ad-hoc committee's report supporting the creation such a position. This committee was put together after several years of personnel matters and disputes from different departments coming before the full board for discussion and debate and action.

District No. 16 (Strum, Towns of Unity and Sumner) Supervisor Jeanne Nutter said that having an administrator will be a bigger benefit than just dealing personnel.

"The county has has a large budget, many employees and being a government official is very time consuming," Nutter said. " Hiring an administrator to take up a lot of the day-to-day matters of running the county will help us as a Board engage more strategic planning and develop ideas for how want the county to be such the development of Petryk Park to be able to handle more visitors and have more amenities to us an example or to be able to develop our tourism capabilities to their fullest a spawn the growth of a lot of small businesses as a result. There's so much more we can do for the county as a Board by having ad administrator."

The Board will spend $20,000 to to work with a consulting group to come up with a job description and work to find candidates for the new position. The Administrator will be hired and answer to the County Board and also be the county's human resource director.

The Board also approved a budget amendment adding $450,000 to the Trempealeau County Highway Dept. budget to cover road work for the rest of the calendar year and into 2024 due to increased costs for construction. They also unanimously approved a zoning amendment in the Town of Sumner to rezone exclusive Ag. 2 (EA2) to Commercial (C).
