Hope Bargain Center hosts grand opening, showcasing results of months-long building rehab process

Pronschinske was one of several contractors who donated time and materials to the building renovation project, completing the finish work on the front entrance (back).

Mondovi’s new Hope Gospel Mission Bargain Center, located at 121 N. Eau Claire St., enjoyed a good crowd at its grand opening festivities on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

The building’s original front entrance was reopened as part of extensive renovation work over the past several months. The new bargain center is best known for its heyday as the Mondovi Farmers Store, which occupied the space for nearly 50 years. The building was also home to Bob’s IGA, Fairview Foods and Pamida before closing its doors about 10 years ago.

Racks of clothing, shoes and other items stand at the ready inside the spacious store, which began opening its doors to customers in late July.

Volunteer Belinda Poeschel played a piano inside the store during the grand opening, providing background music and adding to the nostalgia for those who hadn’t set foot inside the building in many years.

The bargain center also contains a large section for housewares and furniture. Customers enjoyed 50 percent off all purchases and free food during the grand opening.
