Local officials, state lawmakers ask for patience with flood cleanup, funding resources

Buffalo County Emergency Management Director Steve Schiffli (center) spoke during the Town Hall Meeting held in Gilmanton on Thursday, Aug. 25. Schiffli was joined by other county and local officials as well as local representatives to answer questions from residents who have been impacted by recent flooding events.

State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout urged residents to share their concerns in order for she and State Rep. Chris Danou (left) to accurately research answers and potential grants and other funding resources to help the county recover.

Most roads around Buffalo County have now received temporary fixes to reopen to traffic, with a few exceptions. This section of Sand Road just west of Gilmanton caved in during the flood and remains swamped by water. Town board chair Marvin Meier said last Thursday it may never be fixed.
