Reality Check brings over 300 students to Mondovi

Mondovi juniors (clockwise from left) Derek Fedie, Garret Deetz, Cole Meyer and Kaylee Nygaard took a break at a student work station to crunch some numbers.

MHS junior Mackenzie Edwards worked to purchase life insurance for her prescribed family from real-life agent Scott Weiss of Mondovi.

Ryan Schwartz learned how to handle "fate" at a Reality Check station.

Students learned about the importance of volunteering within the community from Bryan Gibbs, Mondovi Ambulance Director.

New at Reality Check this year was the library station, staffed by Alma librarian Rita Magno and Mondovi librarian Arin Wilken. Students learned about free resources available to them in the community and ways to save money each month by taking advantage of library offerings.

Dusty Holter, an officer with the Jackson Correctional Institution in Black River Falls, slapped a pair of handcuffs on junior Nick Pelke and prepared to take him off to “jail” on “child neglect” charges.

Serving a brief “jail term,” Mondovi junior Paige Platter listened as an officer explained how correctional facilities operate. Many students spent time in “jail” during Reality Check as local law enforcement officers handed out “tickets” for a variety of violations throughout the event.

Mondovi Mayor Treig Pronschinske looked over Durand student Jacob Zeilinger’s Reality Check packet at one of the check-out stations staffed by volunteers.

Students were invited to draw a situation out of a jar at the Bridge to Hope station, which educated students about domestic violence and sexual assault.
